Update 16

A picture says a thousand words. The docs seem pretty happy with his progress. That said, they do also say his is a pretty severe case, and we can expect to continue weekly castings for another 3-6wks, we're in round 4 already. Fortunately Liam has adapted to the process pretty well, he still gets pretty ticked off when they are stretching his little ankles as they apply new plaster, but he seems to rebound much quicker, he was smiling and cooing before we left the casting room yesterday. We did weigh him while he was "cast free" for a few minutes, 12lbs even. He's getting big quick, it would be fun if we could stretch him out to full length because he is really quite tall.
We did get confirmation at a recent visit that both Liam's hips are definitely dislocated, and that is something they physician's don't address until he's about a year old, for developmental reasons. Some times they can be "popped" back in, but much more likely is that surgical intervention will be required. Once those things are resolved we can start looking at what, if anything, can be done about his knee joints. Pretty long road ahead, and there is no clear indication on how much function he will, or won't have. Mom and Dad are doing a little better with accepting and living this day to day, it's still such a challenge to accept sometimes, our first shot at expanding our family has been such a tough road, immediately out of the gate. But we're both committed to doing everything we can for the little guy. We thank you all for your support, everybody from co-workers, to family, to friends, to our church, to our community, you guys have been awesome, and so much more often than you know have made the difference during a bad day with a comment, a card, a check, a prayer, or even just a kind smile. Thanks. Really, it makes the difference.
As always, please feel free to distribute.
